To ensure that the effectiveness of research results is not hindered, it is essential to overcome territorial disparities. It is our duty to ensure that these inequalities are not reflected in the fight against cancer. Universal care and equal rights are essential principles enshrined in the Constitution of the Republic. This was highlighted by President Sergio Mattarella during the ceremony on the occasion of the “Research Days”.

The “Research Days” represent an important opportunity for initiative, knowledge and social commitment, aimed at advancing the country in the treatment of tumors and, consequently, improving the quality of life of people. President Mattarella has underlined the importance of these events.

Cancer is a common and feared threat, perceived as an inescapable sentence until a few years ago. It was so feared that it was rarely mentioned by name in everyday language; rather, it was described as an incurable disease, a faceless but definitive evil. Recognizing cancer as a combatable disease thanks to medical advances and research was a significant step. Currently, over 3.5 million people are living after receiving a diagnosis of cancer; many of them can consider themselves cured, while others face the disease with good prospects of success.

The conditions of several patients have improved significantly, allowing them to maintain positive relationships and participate actively in family and social life. This progress highlights the importance of scientific research in providing concrete answers to contemporary health challenges and in ensuring that all people have access to adequate treatments regardless of their geographical location or other socio-economic disparities.
