Mutti, the Parma-based tomato-based company and leader in Europe, has announced an investment of €7 million to support its entire supply chain, a record amount in the company’s 125-year history. The announcement was made during an event held in Reggio Emilia to celebrate the end of the 2024 processing campaign, a season that proved particularly challenging due to summer weather conditions. Mutti operates in over 100 countries and recorded a turnover of €665 million in 2023. For the first time, the company brought together its entire production chain from northern to southern Italy for the 25th edition of the Pomodorino d’Oro award, the most prestigious recognition for tomato quality.

CEO Francesco Mutti shared a reflection on the past season: “2024 was a year that was decidedly more complex than expected and the most difficult of my thirty years at the helm of the company since 1994. However, thanks to the collaboration with the agricultural side, we managed to complete the campaign while maintaining high quality standards.” This spirit of unity led Mutti to allocate 7 million euros to the entire supply chain, in addition to the prices already agreed for tomatoes.

Francesco Mutti underlined the importance of the collaboration: “In such a difficult moment and for our twenty-fifth anniversary of the Pomodorino d’Oro award, we wanted this event to be unique, just as our supply chain is unique. It is essential to continue working together towards the same goal: to guarantee consumers the best possible tomato”.

This year, the harvest campaign involved over 800 families of Italian farmers with whom Mutti actively collaborates. Unlike previous years, where the harvest usually took place over 70 days (from mid-July to the end of September), this year the activities continued until the end of October. This extension represents a 22% increase compared to the working days of 2021.

The company’s decision to invest in this way demonstrates not only its commitment to farmers but also the importance of quality in the production of its products. In difficult times like these, Mutti continues to support its partners in the supply chain to face future challenges together and always guarantee the best standards to the end consumer.
