Matilde Lorenzi, a young 20-year-old skier belonging to the Italian Army sports group, suffered serious injuries following an accident on the slopes of Val Senales, in Alto Adige, while she was training. According to initial information available, the talented Italian ski athlete, who is part of the third national team, was tackling the Gravand G1 slope when she lost control. In particular, her skis spread apart and the young woman lost traction with the snow, brutally impacting her face against the icy ground. At this stage, one of the skis came unhooked and Matilde ended up off the slope.

Immediately after the accident, the coaches present on the scene intervened and will be interviewed to shed light on the dynamics of what happened. The Carabinieri from the Selva Val Gardena Training Center also arrived on site, followed by their colleagues from the Senales Station, who began the surveys to reconstruct what happened. Initial checks showed that the safety conditions on the slope had been checked and were in compliance with the regulations; the protections had also been placed correctly.

Matilde Lorenzi is a promising young Italian skier and last March she won a double Italian title in the super-G in the Absolute and Youth categories. After the accident she was assisted by medical personnel who arrived on site by helicopter; after being intubated, she was urgently transported to the hospital in Bolzano to receive the necessary care.
