Bad weather and electoral crisis in Liguria worry voters
The first day of voting in Liguria was mainly characterized by bad weather, which raised concerns about a possible increase in abstention among voters.
According to information released by the Ministry of the Interior through the Eligendo portal, and also available on the Liguria Region website, at 11 pm the turnout for the regional elections reached 34.68%. Analyzing the provincial data, in the Metropolitan City of Genoa 37.34% voted, in the province of Savona 31.55%, in the province of La Spezia 35.6% and in the province of Imperia 27.15%. For comparison, in 2020 at the same time the turnout had been 39.8% at the regional level; specifically in the Metropolitan City of Genoa it stood at 40.09%, in the province of Savona 41.18%, in the province of La Spezia 39.47% and in the province of Imperia 37.15%.
Yesterday marked the beginning of voting in Liguria. However, adverse weather conditions negatively affected voter participation, fueling concerns about a possible increase in abstention. At midday, a slight drop in turnout was recorded compared to 2020: from 13.92% it dropped to 13.06%. This trend was also confirmed during the evening with a further decrease: at 7 pm the percentage of voters was 30.6%, compared to 32.7% at the same time in the previous year.

The rain and the scandal related to the data stolen by institutional figures contributed to making this first day less lively and devoid of noteworthy events. The main candidates - Marco Bucci of the center-right and Andrea Orlando of the center-left - both communicated the importance of each individual vote and expressed gratitude to those who ensured the smooth running of the electoral operations despite the climatic difficulties. An orange alert for heavy rain and thunderstorms persisted over much of the region; some polling stations were transferred from risk areas such as Borgio Verezzi, Quiliano, Vado and Spotorno.
The only noteworthy episode on a quiet day was the report of the disappearance of electoral material. Among the lost items were blank copies of the voting records and copying pencils intended for the sections of the Municipality of Sanremo. The Imperia Prosecutor’s Office confirmed the news to the Ansa agency: “I was informed of the matter by the prefect,” said Alberto Lari, chief prosecutor of Imperia. “The stamp has been replaced and we are monitoring the operations to ensure regularity.” It is not clear whether the material was stolen or if there was simply a loss.
“It is essential to exercise your right to vote because everyone counts!”, Marco Bucci communicated on social media while sharing a photo of his moment at the polling station in Genoa. “Today and tomorrow we will decide who will lead our Liguria; every vote can make
