The Mexican Grand Prix resumed its normal course on lap seven, after the safety car left the track. Max Verstappen was in first place in his Red Bull, followed by Carlos Sainz of Ferrari, Lando Norris of McLaren and the other Ferrari driver, Charles Leclerc. In the early stages of the race, there was contact between the cars of Alexander Albon and Yuki Tsunoda at the back, due to a maneuver in which Tsunoda was closed by the Alpine single-seater of Pierre Gasly. At the start, Verstappen had managed to pass Sainz, who was starting from pole position, thus immediately taking the lead of the race.
