The Mexican Grand Prix resumed smoothly on lap seven after the safety car left the track. Red Bull’s Verstappen was in first place, followed by Ferrari’s Sainz, McLaren’s Norris and Leclerc, also in a Ferrari. Immediately after the start, there was contact at the back of the race, which led to the safety car being deployed. The cars involved were those of Albon and Tsunoda, with the latter having been closed down by Alpine’s Gasly. At the start, Verstappen managed to pass poleman Sainz, thus gaining the lead.
