In the Mexican Grand Prix, Sainz took the lead, followed by Norris and Leclerc. The race resumed normally on lap seven after the safety car came out. Verstappen was leading the race in his Red Bull, while Sainz was driving the Ferrari, followed by Norris in the McLaren and the other Ferrari of Leclerc. Shortly after the start of the race, a collision at the back led to the safety car being deployed. The cars involved were those of Albon and Tsunoda, with the latter being closed down by Gasly in the Alpine. At the start, Verstappen overtook Sainz, who was starting from pole position, to take the lead.
