The main awards of the 19th Rome Film Fest were given to several films and artists. The Best Film award went to Huo Xin’s “Bound in Heaven”, while Michiel Blanchart’s “La Nuit Se Traîne” received the Grand Jury Prize. Best Director was awarded to Morrisa Maltz for the film “Jazzy”, while Best Screenplay was awarded to Christopher Andrews for “Bring Them Down”. Ángela Molina won the “Monica Vitti” Award for Best Actress for her performance in “Polvo Serán”, while Elio Germano won the “Vittorio Gassman” Award for Best Actor for his role in “Berlinguer. La grande ambizione”.
The award ceremony was held in the Sala Petrassi of the Auditorium Parco della Musica Ennio Morricone. This film festival has official recognition as a Competitive Festival by the Fiapf (Fédération Internationale des Associations de Producteurs de Films).
The jury, chaired by director and producer Pablo Trapero, included figures such as editor Francesca Calvelli, French actress Laetitia Casta, producer Gail Egan and writer Dennis Lehane. In addition to the main awards, other awards were given in the Progressive Cinema Competition. In particular, the Special Jury Prize went to the female cast of the film “Reading Lolita in Tehran”.
Another jury, led by director and screenwriter Francesca Comencini and composed of producer and composer Kaili Peng and actor Antoine Reinartz, awarded the Best First Work Award to the films: “Bound in Heaven” by Huo Xin (in the Progressive Cinema section) and “Ciao Bambino” by Edgardo Pistone (in the Freestyle section), both ex aequo. In addition, a Special Mention was awarded to actor Liu Hsiu-Fu for his performance in “Pierce” by Nelicia Low.
The audience played an active role in assigning the awards of the Progressive Cinema Competition: they voted for the FS Audience Award, the official sponsor of the Fest, choosing the film “Reading Lolita in Tehran” directed by Eran Riklis. Spectators were able to express their preferences through the official App of the festival “Rome Film Fest”, on the dedicated website and through links provided during the purchase of tickets.
