The regional elections in Liguria will be held today from 7 am to 11 pm and tomorrow from 7 am to 3 pm.
The regional elections in Liguria will take place today from 7 am to 11 pm and tomorrow from 7 am to 3 pm. Due to a wave of bad weather that affected the region, some polling stations located in risk areas have been relocated. This decision was taken during a meeting between the Ligurian Prefectures, the Regional Electoral Office, Arpal and the Civil Protection, to manage the necessary measures in relation to the current weather alert. Voting operations are taking place regularly and polling stations have been opened as planned throughout the Ligurian territory. Prefectures and Municipalities continue to carefully monitor the situation, collaborating with the regional authorities to ensure the safety of voting activities. In some locations, the location of polling stations has been changed to protect voters.
A total of 1,341,799 Ligurian citizens are called to the polls to elect the new president of the Region and the thirty members of the regional legislative assembly during the weekend of October 27 and 28. This number represents an increase of 0.09% compared to the 1,340,604 eligible voters in the previous elections in 2020, when 716,211 voters were registered with a turnout of 53.42%.
Center-right candidate Marco Bucci shared a message on social media encouraging citizens to exercise their right to vote: “Today and tomorrow we decide who will govern our Liguria. Voting is fundamental for democracy and every vote counts! Don’t give up on choosing your future.” After casting his vote this morning in Genoa, he stressed the importance of active voter participation.
Andrea Orlando, the center-left candidate for the presidency of the Region, expressed gratitude to those who are working hard to ensure that the elections go off without a hitch despite the adverse weather conditions. He also addressed a special thought to the communities affected by the bad weather, especially Arenzano.
In the last regional elections four years ago, Giovanni Toti was reconfirmed as president with the support of the center-right, obtaining 56.13% of the votes (383,053 preferences). His main opponent was Ferruccio Sansa of the center-left-M5S who received 38.90% (265,506 votes). Other candidates did not even reach the 3% threshold. Today, the parties supporting the two main factions have seen an increase: the center-right has seven lists while the progressive factions have six.
In the previous round, the Toti List was the most voted with 22.61% of the votes; followed by the Democratic Party-Article One at 19.89%, the League at 17.14%, Brothers of Italy at 10.87%, the 5 Star Movement at 7.78% and other smaller parties.
At the provincial level, voters are distributed as follows: Genoa has approximately 732,024 eligible voters; Savona has approximately 243,962; La Spezia approximately 186,813; while Imperia has approximately 179.
The regional elections in Liguria will be held today from 7 am to 11 pm and tomorrow from 7 am to 3 pm.
