A father has the right to give life, but not to decide on the death of his children. It is not acceptable that someone takes on the power to decree extinction. Today the Movement represents the community of its members. Outside of this context, there are authoritarian visions that should not find justification in the political sphere. This is what Giuseppe Conte said during an event in Cesena, responding to Beppe Grillo’s statements regarding the 5 Star Movement.

Recently, Grillo has intensified the debate over the M5S leadership, claiming that he has “the right to the extinction” of the party he founded and which he now claims he no longer recognizes as his own. This statement, typical of his dramatic and meaningful style, could also allude to possible legal action. However, current M5S members of Parliament reject these claims and defend their commitment to the original principles. Giuseppe Conte in particular stresses the importance of the constituent phase he promoted to transform M5S into a political force oriented towards the future.

Conte also commented on the government’s recent Budget, expressing strong concerns: “The situation is serious because this budget is in line with the stability pact and will inevitably lead to cuts, translated into new taxes.” He highlighted the crisis in the health sector and the reductions in school staff, both for teachers and ATA staff. Furthermore, the cuts to pension revaluations were described as an insignificant handout.

“We are seeing a series of linear cuts that will hit ministries; this means reductions in essential programs and projects,” Conte added. He went on to describe how cuts to municipalities will impact social services: “This is a government characterized by large-scale cuts.”
