Atalanta started the match against Verona with great momentum, securing a clear 6-1 victory in the opening match of the ninth matchday of Serie A. After just ten minutes, the Goddess was leading by two goals, and the rest of the match was a demonstration of superiority by Gasperini’s team.

Verona, lined up with a 5-4-1 defensive formation, struggled to contain the Nerazzurri attack, which scored three goals in just fifteen minutes. Lookman was the undisputed star of the first half, finishing with a brace. The Nigerian contributed to all three goals: he assisted De Roon for the opening goal, triangulated with Retegui for the second and finally inspired De Ketelaere for the third goal.

Despite the heavy defeat and the fifth defeat in the last six games, Hellas tried to react and found the net with Sarr shortly before half-time. However, in the second half Retegui definitively sealed the fate of the Verona team and further jeopardized the position of coach Zanetti.

The game was unlocked in the sixth minute thanks to De Roon. A few moments later Retegui doubled the lead; the Italian striker tried again in the twelfth but failed to hit the target following an assist from Zappacosta. In the fifteenth minute Lookman created the necessary space for De Ketelaere to score a beautiful curling goal from the right edge of the area.

Towards the middle of the first half, Montipò was forced to save a dangerous header from Retegui thanks to an assist from Ruggeri. Shortly after, Lookman asserted himself by beating Coppola and scoring the fourth goal in the 29th minute. In the 35th minute, Lookman repeated the feat, bringing the Nerazzurri’s goals to five thanks to the understanding between Ederson and De Ketelaere.

Verona managed to get close to the score when Sarr hit the post on the only noteworthy play shortly after Atalanta’s fifth goal. Although Sarr was offside at the start of the move, the Gialloblu striker finally managed to score to close the gap four minutes before half-time.

In the second half of the match a lucky deflection on a Lookman shot does not turn into a goal while in the thirteenth minute Retegui scores his tenth goal in nine games thus scoring the sixth goal for the home team. The move comes from a verticalization between Pasalic and De Ketelaere.

Verona seems to limit itself to honoring the commitment without creating any real danger; Lazovic comes in but fails to make an impact while a long-range attempt by Dani Silva is easily saved by Carnesecchi in the final minutes of the match. Atalanta also comes close to scoring the seventh goal with Pasalic who however fails to give
